Olivia Emery: A Senior Year to Remember and a Future to Chase

\When it comes to defining a high school senior year, few experiences compare to the whirlwind of achievements, challenges and memories that make it unforgettable. For Olivia Emery of Neosho High School, the 2025-2026 school year has been nothing short of extraordinary. From the softball diamond to the homecoming stage, Olivia has made her mark as a student, athlete and leader; earning accolades, forming lifelong friendships and preparing for the next chapter in her journey.
“It’s been an amazing year,” said Olivia, reflecting on her senior experience. “I have made many memories that I will take with me for the rest of my life. The entirety of high school softball season probably stands out the most. Spending hours together with a team is a great opportunity to foster fun experiences.”
A Season on the Mound
Softball has been a central part of Olivia’s high school identity, and her performance this year has been nothing short of remarkable. She finished the season with 318 strikeouts, an earned run average (ERA) of 1.26, and 161 innings pitched.
“My focus this season was to improve every time I stepped on the mound,” she said. “I feel like I achieved my goals and am proud of the work that went into achieving them.”
Her accomplishments didn’t go unnoticed. Olivia was named the COC West Softball Player of the Year, an honor awarded to the athlete who demonstrates excellence, leadership and dedication throughout the season. Olivia’s ability to combine consistency with standout performances made her a top contender among her peers.
But the recognition wasn’t just about stats. Olivia credits her community and teammates for helping her reach new heights.
“Community support was a huge contributor to how I performed this season,” she said. “Having a large group of people supporting the team’s efforts helps motivate the team to do our best. My teammates also helped me greatly throughout the season—they were a consistent support that I knew I could always rely on. My family has also helped my mindset as they are my biggest fans and support me in everything I do.”
Challenges and Growth
Of course, no journey is without its obstacles. For Olivia, the toughest moments have come not from her opponents, but from her own high expectations.
“Pitching slumps have been the most difficult part of my sports career,” she admitted. “I am a perfectionist and always strive to be as close to perfect as possible. Overcoming this mindset has been the most challenging moment of my sports career. Understanding that doing my best is good enough and continuing to work to better myself has helped me overcome this challenge.”
Being a student-athlete at Neosho High School has taught Olivia about discipline, balance and determination.
“It has motivated me to become the best version of myself,” she said. “I have learned to balance being involved in the high school academically and athletically to improve all versions of myself.”
Her mentors have played a vital role as well. Coach Goodell, in particular, provided guidance throughout her senior year.
“Coach Goodell was an incredible mentor,” Olivia said. “She valued teamwork and dedication, though she ensured that we all enjoyed the sport we were playing. I constantly am learning from my teammates and coaches.”

Beyond the Diamond
While her athletic accomplishments have taken center stage, Olivia’s senior year has been rich in other milestones. She was crowned homecoming queen, a title she described as “a fun experience” and one she is grateful for.
“Both were extraordinary recognitions that I am incredibly grateful to have been awarded,” Olivia said, referring to her homecoming and Player of the Year honors. “It has been rewarding to have been recognized for my hard work athletically.”
Balancing athletics, schoolwork and social life is no easy feat, but Olivia has approached every challenge with the same focus she brings to softball. Her ability to juggle responsibilities, lead by example and still make room for fun demonstrates the kind of holistic growth that makes her stand out among her peers.
Looking Ahead
As she prepares to graduate, Olivia is ready to continue her softball and academic career at Iowa Western Community College. While the next chapter may come with new challenges, Olivia’s mindset is clear: growth, learning and enjoyment remain at the center of her ambitions.
Her advice to younger players reflects the lessons she has learned along the way: “Value having fun playing softball. Enjoying the sport you play is the most important part of the game and allows the hard moments to feel more earned. Enjoying the things you do will inspire you to work harder.”
This philosophy has defined her senior year: a balance of hard work, perseverance and joy in the journey. Whether she is striking out a batter, leading her teammates or soaking in the thrill of homecoming, Olivia exemplifies what it means to seize the moment while keeping an eye on the horizon.
A Legacy of Dedication
Olivia’s senior year is more than a series of accolades - it’s a testament to dedication, resilience and community. From early morning practices to late-night study sessions, from homecoming celebrations to championship games, she has left a mark on Neosho High School that will be remembered for years to come.
Her story is also a reminder of the power of support. From family and coaches to teammates and fans, the network around her has been a key ingredient in her success.
“Having a support system makes all the difference,” she said. “It motivates you to push harder and reminds you that you’re never doing it alone.”
As Olivia prepares to take her talents and ambition to the collegiate level, there’s little doubt that her impact will continue. Her senior year may be ending, but her journey is just beginning - one that promises continued excellence, personal growth and the same infectious enthusiasm that has defined her high school career.
For Olivia Emery, the lessons of the diamond—discipline, resilience and joy in the journey—are already shaping a future as bright as the memories she leaves behind.
