A Dog’s Dream Finds Forever Homes for Retired Breeder Dogs

A Dog’s Dream Dog Adoption Agency in Neosho, Missouri, isn’t your typical place to find and adopt a new furry friend. Instead, this organization focuses more on placing retired breeder dogs in the best environment for them to help create a perfect new forever home.
When these dogs have finished their service, generally when they’re 2-7 years old, A Dog’s Dream is ready to help facilitate the journey for each one of them into loving homes, where they are sure to become cherished companions.
When it comes to how this works, A Dog’s Dream Executive Director Brodi Pursley says, “Our adoption process is straightforward. We do not want to infringe on a person’s ability to adopt a pet. No matter where a person is in life, sometimes all it takes is a furry companion to enhance a positive atmosphere at home.
“All our available adoptable dogs are listed on PetFinder and our website (www.adogsdream.org). If you like one of our dogs, call or email us to schedule a meet and greet. We recommend bringing other members of your household, be it humans or other furry friends, to get a better understanding of how the dog will be a good fit.”
Brodi said most of the time, the introduction goes off without a hitch and after that, “You fill out an adoption form, make a donation and leave with your pet the same day.”
A Dog’s Dream makes sure everything is in order when these dogs come to them, and Brodi says, “Before the retirees ever enter our facility, we coordinate with the breeder and Pinnacle Vet to have them spayed/neutered, get updated vaccines and dental cleanings/attention, as well as being microchipped so they’re ready to go once they’ve been adopted.”

As far as the timeline for when retirees are ready to join A Dog’s Dream, Brodi says, “That’s discussed with individual breeders we partner with closely. They let us know ahead of time which dogs will soon be retiring so we can adequately plan for their intake into our adoption center.”
Partnerships with breeders are pivotal. Brodi says, “They ensure we are getting healthy dogs from responsible sources who truly care about their breeder dogs. It helps to complete the circle of ethical pet placement.
“We choose top-level breeders from which we receive our dogs. That gives, not just us but the breeders as well, peace of mind in knowing we’re all practicing responsible adoption and helping complete the circle for these dogs by placing them in loving and caring lifelong homes.”
A Dog’s Dream has wide-ranging types, shapes and sizes of dogs available.
“As an example, we currently have great Danes, huskies, labs, French bulldogs, poodles, Maltese, corgis and more,” Brodi says.
“Some of the more common breeds we get are typically the smaller ones, such as Lhasa apsos, poodles, shih tzus and the like. However, we have a regular flow of larger breeds as well.”
Not all dogs at A Dog’s Dream are retired.

“We also intake ‘perfectly imperfect’ puppies, which come from our partner breeders, as well, and they need homes just as much as our retirees,” Brodi says.
“These puppies typically have an ailment that keeps them from being placed in pet stores, such as low-grade heart murmurs, joints that don’t pass inspection, hearing issues, etc. We believe these puppies also need lifelong forever homes, and they are steadily coming in and out of our facility, as well.”
Whether it’s a younger or older dog doesn’t matter. A Dog’s Dream is making lots of customers ecstatic.
Abby Cataldo says, “We found our sweet puppy a few months ago. They gave us flea/tick meds and heartworm preventative. And they sent us home with a bag of dog food and a dog toy.
“They also gave us vet reports and spayed/neutered our dog before posting it for adoption, which was nice. I happily recommend their adoption center if you’re looking for a new family member.”
Isabella Mosley says, “A little more than a month ago, I brought Winston home. I found him on PetFinder and fell in love. Everyone at A Dog’s Dream was so kind and provided me with all the information I needed up front.
“They gave me a three-month supply of flea/tick and heartworm medications. They also sent us home with the dog bed he had there, as well as his favorite toy and a bag of dog food. He’s the sweetest boy. I’m so grateful I found him. My experience with the adoption center was great. I’d recommend them.”
A Dog’s Dream wants it to be a perfect match, and Brodi says, “Sometimes it’s not the human that picks the dog, but rather the dog that picks the human. We feel as though every dog in our care is worthy of finding a loving, caring home.

“Sometimes all it takes is someone being interested in them and falling in love. There have been instances when the adopter and the dog don’t mesh for various reasons and that’s okay, because we firmly believe there’s a home out there for each dog that enters our doors.”
Brodi believes in this program and says, “I like to tell people what sets us apart from humane societies, shelters and rescues is that we’re none of those things. There’s not another 501c3 nonprofit in the country that’s doing what we do, how we do it.
“We partner with responsible, compassionate and ethical breeders who just care so much about completing the circle of life for their dogs and helping close the gap in placement for them. Together, we deliver amazing dogs to families adopting a pet.”
This is a big deal for all those who work at A Dog’s Dream, and Brodi says, “Myself and our staff are passionate about what we do. We take great pride knowing we get to play a part in extending the lives of these retired breeder dogs and amazing puppies.
“It’s such a great feeling to see the excitement and love on the adopters’ face when they get to take home such a deserving pet. Additionally, it’s rewarding to know the dogs we’ve cared for during their stay here have found the home they deserve.”
There’s a lot to making sure this all goes smoothly and says, “The key to success is in the hands of our amazing adopters, who understand the value in adopting from a special organization with such special dogs. I’d also like to stress the fact we couldn’t operate without our phenomenal staff.

“The love, care and hard work of everyone from our animal care specialists and manager to our director of operations is a shining reflection on our success. Additionally, one of the major keys in facilitating a perfect adoption is ensuring every dog in our care benefits from the socialization, enrichment and training we provide during their stay with us.”
Brodi also credits the administrative side for its role and said with being a nonprofit that solely relies on regular funding from grants, donations, sponsors and partnerships, A Dog’s Dream is always looking for ways to increase revenue, while also striving to be sure the public recognizes there’s a great place in Neosho to find incredible dogs.
In his position, Brodi has a great deal of responsibility, but he says, “What makes me thrilled to be part of this nonprofit and the entire endeavor is the reward it brings both emotionally and mentally. Pets are such a phenomenal resource for support throughout all walks of life.
“Whether it’s emotional support, physical support, therapy dogs, service dogs or just a companion to help keep you company, the value that these dogs bring to people’s lives, not just ours, is unmatched. Any day that we get to match one of our dogs to a loving home is a great day.”
Stacy Mason, another happy client, sums it up best, “This place is making a difference in dog’s lives and the people’s lives they touch.”
