Freeman Emergency Department’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program provides compassionate, victim-centered care and forensic exams to sexual assault survivors in the Joplin area. Led by Dr. Kathryn Cornelius and Karen Scott, the program supports survivors medically and legally while promoting healing and accountability. Since 2010, it has treated over 400 patients, emphasizing sensitivity, evidence collection, and community collaboration to combat sexual violence.

The Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Network is advocating for expanded, connected trails and bike safety to improve community accessibility and quality of life. They’re raising awareness through a monthly column and donating 100 helmets and bike locks to support safe biking during National Bike to Work Week. Their long-term goal includes linking local trails to those in Northwest Arkansas for a regional network.

Kristin Girard’s jewelry line, Kristin’s Laboratory, blends science and art to create unique, affordable pieces inspired by nature. Using her chemistry background, she experiments with techniques like copper electroforming and also volunteers teaching jewelry-making to help the community. Her work is available locally and online.

After discovering her passion for painting at 32, Michelle Gudde became a Master Teacher under artist Bill Alexander and taught art for over 30 years. Following a bone cancer diagnosis and the loss of her right arm, she taught herself to paint with her left hand—never giving up her calling.
