After witnessing family health struggles, Cody Wilkins of Webb City, Missouri, transformed his life by taking up running and triathlons, losing significant weight and improving his health. Starting with running to boost his football endurance, he became a competitive swimmer and triathlete, earning state records and national recognition. Wilkins values the friendships and well-being gained through his fitness journey, which now benefits both his family life and overall happiness.

Jonah Spieker, a 17-year-old homeschool student, excelled both academically and athletically as a standout tight end for the Webb City Cardinals football team. Despite the challenges of balancing homeschool studies and public school sports, Spieker’s relentless work ethic and dedication led to numerous football honors and strong relationships with teammates and coaches. He plans to attend Hillsdale College after graduation.

The Praying Hands Monument in Webb City, created by artist Jack Dawson during the Vietnam War era, was intended as a lasting symbol of peace, prayer, and hope. Now a well-known landmark along Route 66, the 32-foot sculpture continues to offer comfort and inspiration to locals and visitors, reflecting the community’s enduring values and attracting people from around the world for fifty years.

Charlie Brown, a dedicated Joplin volunteer, honors his parents’ legacy by helping others throughout the community—serving at the Salvation Army, supporting the Humane Society, aiding food programs, and assisting various local causes. Inspired by personal family challenges, he’s committed to making a positive impact each week, encouraging others to start small and give back in any way they can.

Joplin’s Third Thursday, organized by the Downtown Joplin Alliance, returns for its 17th year, drawing thousands each month for themed events featuring vendors, food trucks, live music, and community activities. The event has revitalized downtown, filling once-empty storefronts and fostering a vibrant atmosphere, thanks to dedicated volunteers, sponsors, and ongoing community support.

Two upcoming family-friendly science shows are coming to the Cornell Complex: TheaterWorksUSA’s “The Magic School Bus: Lost In The Solar System,” a live adventure where Ms. Frizzle and her class journey through space, and “Janet’s Planet,” an award-winning educational program led by Janet Ivey that explores the wonders of the solar system.
